Getting Started with Composer Mat

How to Assemble Your Composer Mat with Tac Stickers

Tacs are the repositionable adhesive connectors included with your Composer Mat. They join your tiles together into a seamless, custom layout — no tools required.

Before You Begin

Start by arranging your tiles on your desk without any Tacs. Try different configurations until you find the layout you love. Taking this step first prevents unnecessary repositioning later, which can weaken the adhesive.

Step 1 — Plan Your Layout

Place all your tiles on your desk in the exact position and arrangement you want. Make sure you're happy with the placement before moving on.

Step 2 — Prepare the Tac Sticker

Slide a Tac sticker under the edge of one tile with the sticky side facing up. Use the printed alignment lines on the sticker as a guide — they should line up with the seam between the two tiles you're joining.

Step 3 — Know Where to Place Your Tacs

  • At every corner where four tiles meet, place one Tac centered on that junction.
  • Along any 10" joining seam, place one Tac at each end of that edge. Position each Tac so it sits fully beneath the tile and is hidden from view when the mat is assembled.
  • For extra hold, additional Tacs can be added anywhere along a seam.

Step 4 — Join the Tiles

Carefully position the neighboring tile on top of the exposed Tac, pressing the two tiles as tightly together as possible. Avoid sliding or repositioning tiles once they make contact with the adhesive, as this reduces the holding strength.

Step 5 — Lock It In

Once you're satisfied with the alignment, apply firm, even pressure directly over each Tac for a few seconds to fully bond the connection.

Tips

  • The printed lines on each Tac are your alignment guide — use them.
  • Avoid repositioning tiles after contact. If you need to adjust, do it before pressing down.
  • Extra Tacs are included for a reason — use them wherever you want a stronger hold. Need more?  Find them here.
